OILS FROM THE REGION
The geological characteristics, calcareous, licorella (oxidized slates) and granite soils, as well as the extreme temperature conditions (hot summers and cold winters) are factors that favor the cultivation of olives and give Priorat oils their own organoleptic characteristics and differentiated
The most abundant olive variety is the arbequina, which the Duke of Medinaceli brought to our lands there in the 16th century. However, varieties such as: farga, rojal, morrut and sevillenca are also grown. The oil produced in the Priorat conveys the intensity of this territory located between the counties of Baix Camp, Les Garrigues and Terres de l’Ebre, acquiring characteristics from all of them but, at the same time, with a very marked personality of its own . The result is an extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality that is shielded and protected by the DOP Siurana.
The designation of extra virgin olive oil indicates that it is a natural product, obtained from the pressing of olives through physical procedures, and therefore it is the juice of the olive that retains all the aroma and flavor of the fruit The large number of prizes obtained by the oils of the different producers in the region demonstrates the importance of the work well done in the production of the product, from the work on the farm, through the production in the mill to the consumer, obtaining at the end a small treasure: the Priorat oil.
